Oochigeas Itoh Peony Root with 3-5 Eyes

Oochigeas Itoh Peony, an enchanting modern intersectional hybrid inspired by classic folklore and celebrated for its rare, artistic color palette. Bred by Thierry Rat, this exceptional perennial merges the robust structural integrity of tree peonies with the reliable garden hardiness of herbaceous types. The lush, semi-double to fully double blossoms open in warm tones of creamy apricot-pink, uniquely contrasted by dramatic smoky purple and wine-red flares radiating from the petal bases. Supported by sturdy, upright stems that reach roughly 24 to 28 inches in height, this captivating variety requires no staking while emitting a pleasant, light fragrance. Highly prized by rare plant collectors and floral designers for its unique hue transitions and deeply divided, disease-resistant foliage that stays pristine until autumn, Oochigeas is a magnificent focal point for high-end landscapes.

Terms & Conditions (Checkout Agreement)

By checking out, you agree to our terms and designated shipping schedule. Once your order is confirmed, it is final, and the buyer assumes responsibility for proper root storage if the ground is frozen upon delivery. Mild weather windows across many regions allow for successful outdoor planting well into December. Because peonies benefit from winter chill, you can easily dig your planting holes ahead of time if freezing soil is a concern.

Bare Root Peony Growing Information & When to Expect Blooms

Planting Time: Plant your bare roots in the fall as soon as you receive them, before the ground freezes solid. This gives the root system time to establish over the winter.

Planting Depth: Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots. Position the root with the "eyes" (buds) pointing upward, 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface. Planting them too deep will prevent the plant from blooming.

Sun & Soil: Choose a location with full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily) and rich, well-draining soil. Avoid waterlogged areas to prevent rot.

When to Expect Blooms:

  • Year 1 (First Spring): The plant will focus its energy on root establishment and foliage growth. You may see a few green shoots or small leaves, but blooms are rare or may be very small.
  • Year 2: Foliage will become fuller and stronger, and you may get your first light bloom.
  • Years 3 and Beyond: The peony will reach maturity, producing its full-sized, abundant blossoms and peak performance.
