Lois Choice Peony Root with 3-5 Eyes

Lois Choice peony, a breathtaking and remarkably distinct masterpiece widely considered one of the most innovative breakthroughs in modern hybridizing. Developed by Chris Laning and officially registered in 1993, this sensational perennial earned the highly prestigious American Peony Society Gold Medal in 2017. The fascinating, high-built double blossoms exhibit an extraordinary three-tiered color display, segmenting into a warm orchid-pink outer ring, a bright buttercream-yellow inner ring, and returning to a glowing peach-pink right at the center. Standing on compact, sturdy stems that grow roughly 24 to 30 inches tall, its exceptionally robust stems hold the dense, multi-layered flowers beautifully aloft above broad, deep green foliage. Intensely sought after by advanced collectors and luxury floral designers for its mesmerizing, marbling hue progression, Lois' Choice is an absolute crown jewel of the early spring garden.

Terms & Conditions (Checkout Agreement)

By checking out, you agree to our terms and designated shipping schedule. Once your order is confirmed, it is final, and the buyer assumes responsibility for proper root storage if the ground is frozen upon delivery. Mild weather windows across many regions allow for successful outdoor planting well into December. Because peonies benefit from winter chill, you can easily dig your planting holes ahead of time if freezing soil is a concern.

Bare Root Peony Growing Information & When to Expect Blooms

Planting Time: Plant your bare roots in the fall as soon as you receive them, before the ground freezes solid. This gives the root system time to establish over the winter.

Planting Depth: Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots. Position the root with the "eyes" (buds) pointing upward, 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface. Planting them too deep will prevent the plant from blooming.

Sun & Soil: Choose a location with full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily) and rich, well-draining soil. Avoid waterlogged areas to prevent rot.

When to Expect Blooms:

  • Year 1 (First Spring): The plant will focus its energy on root establishment and foliage growth. You may see a few green shoots or small leaves, but blooms are rare or may be very small.
  • Year 2: Foliage will become fuller and stronger, and you may get your first light bloom.
  • Years 3 and Beyond: The peony will reach maturity, producing its full-sized, abundant blossoms and peak performance.
